A long-awaited revival of the celebrated collaboration between Paul Van Nevel's Huelgas Ensemble and his friends the fado singers of Lisbon. Past and present come together in an atmosphere of saudade or sweet, intangible melancholy.
On June 14th, the Huelgas Ensemble will revive its successful collaboration with the Fadistas de Lisboa. After much in-depth research, Paul Van Nevel uncovered astounding resemblances between contemporary fado and sixteenth century villancico. Common to both musical styles was the saudade. Give in to this feeling of melancholy and you will find yourself weeping the Tears of Lisbon.
