Skiing in Belgium
-
Don't laugh: you can ski in Belgium, and not only in the Ardennes! Of course, the eastern edge of the country is naturally better-known for its winter sports.
Spread along the eastern "Cantons" - the German-speaking part of Belgium - the provinces of Lihge, Luxembourg and Namur possess in total over sixty cross-country skiing pistes. They open as soon as there is snow, which is quite common on the Ardennes plateaux! Around ten pistes are suitably equipped for Alpine skiing or tobogganing (with ski tows, rentals, etc). The best known are at La Gleize (close to the famous Francorchamps race track), the Baraque de Fraiture, Ovifat. Some of the Ardennes pistes, such as the Baraque de Fraiture (042/86.57.06), Malmedy and Robertville (080/67.90.33) are also great for snow scooter tours, and all have the necessary equipment for hire.
