Maison Cauchie : A splendid centenary
-
As exhibitions on Art Nouveau proliferate in the city where it originated at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, this year is the centenary of Maison Cauchie.
A home totally designed and decorated by architect Paul Cauchie (1875-1952), this splendid dwelling along Rue des Francs in Etterbeek is exhibiting its best sgraffiti: a façade containing nine muses and pure gems on the ground floor, also containing furniture from the period, whereas the lower ground floor still houses the great artist's workshop. With a paltry entrance fee of 4 EUROS, Maison Cauchie is open the first Sunday each month from 11 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm, or by appointment, as long as you come as a group.
