Festivals : In Belgium, summer rimes with music
-
Over the last few years, Belgium has set itself up as a fertile music land. Thus, each summer our flat land transforms itself in a large plain where all sorts of festivals are growing.
In Brussels, the Festival Couleur Café (coffee colour festival) which is held at Tour & Taxis attracts an eclectic crowd. Dedicated to town music from the world over, it is getting more and more success.
The most important and the best known outside of our borders is the Festival Rock Werchter (Leuven). With an import rock grounding distribution, it welcomes, at the end of June-beginning of July, what is the best in the genre. There, well known stars or young fledgelings meet an enormous public.
On the French speaking side, the Spa Francofolies (mad about French stuff) welcomes over four days the most well known French speaking artists. It has a village and pleasant family atmosphere, especially when the sun is shining.
Flanders is not left behind as at the end of August, the Pukkelpop Festival (Hasselt) is a not to be missed venue for the pop-rock fans.
LaSemo means "The seed" in Esperanto and was planted in July 2008 on the gorgeous isle of Oneux in Hotton. The festival is expecting more than 20.000 music-lovers to invade the island but also the camping of LaSemo.
Not to forget the Dour Festival, Esperanzah, Brussels Summer Festival, ... and hundred more of others scattered in all corners of our land. Stéphanie Guillaume
