Mozart's most celebrated wind serenade is recognised as the finest piece for wind ensemble of the 18th century.
And it certainly deserves the "Gran" in its "Gran Partita" (Great Partita) label. From its cautious introduction to its operatic finale, everything about this monumental serenade is a breath of fresh air. Mozart's inventiveness is followed by Stravinsky's liveliest concerto, with the outstanding pianist Alain Planès as soloist.
