Wiels is the contemporary arts centre Brussels has long been waiting for. The centre has been established through the commitment of a private not-for-profit association, consisting of people from the world of politics and the art scene.
Wiels will be neither a museum nor an art gallery, but an innovative institution in terms of both content and structure. The art centre will develop a series of temporary activities without a permanent collection. Contemporary art will promote the understanding of a world in constant transformation and be regarded as a form of knowledge and emerging creation that concern each of us in today's society.
Wiels articulates an original program around a set of complementary functions: the front part of the building is devoted to exhibitions and pubic reception, while the rear part of the building houses the artists-in-residence studios, the education department, a research centre and the socio-cultural activities.
