The Botanique is continuing to explore the boundaries of "official" art. For the silver jubilee of the Brussels Créahm (creativity and mental handicap), the Arts Centre is unveiling a series of unpublished works created within those visual art studios.
Paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, notebooks - this is a sizeable selection of powerful works, coming from thirty or so artists, such as Pierre de Peet, Pascale Vincke, or the famous Pascal Duquenne, whose engravings are causing quite a stir. The incredible force of this work, accomplished beyond the codes or constraints of artistic circles, cannot fail to strike you.
Founded in 1983, the Brussels Créahm offers studios to people motivated by artistic work and who mentally handicapped. Objective: to give rise to and to allow the expression that is specific to each individual. The exhibition is therefore hoping to contribute to the fight whereby the various talents discovered in those studios find their place in a society that recognises each artist's particular expression.
