Between the bottom end of the Chaussée de Gand and the top of Avenue Charles-Quint, just opposite the Basilix Shopping Centre a few dozen cows chew the cud.
These are the last to tread hoof on Brussels soil. The Zavelenberg farm has therefore become an institution in its own right and is particularly popular with school parties. A typical institutional absurdity: a few years ago when the autonomous Brussels-Capital region was being established politicians contemplated appointing a Minister for Agriculture as in the two other Belgian regions! We'll never know if the Zavelenberg farm owner would have stood for election...
