The association "The Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia" was created in 1994 and is amongst other inspired by the experience of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France".
The network of the "Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia" is articulated around a criterion of quality. The conditions of admission of a village:
It must posses a marked rural character,
The existence of one or more listed monuments, or buildings likely to be listed in the near future,
An architectural and urbanistic heritage of value which are evaluated through a number of objective criteria,
A collective will, shared by inhabitants and the municipality alike, which is authenticated by concrete acts aiming to emphasize the characteristics of local heritages .
