Over the past 30 years, Tania Maria Correia Reis has built up an extensive, well-balanced oeuvre. She combines jazz harmonies, pop and blues with Brazilian genres, such as choro and samba, and writes cheerful songs that are easy on the ear.
This formula has won her a Grammy nomination and invitations to several big festivals in Montreux, New Orleans, Tokyo and Nice. She uses her low, unpolished voice in an adventurous, instinctive way and with funky scat vocals: boop-be-doo-boop-be-ooh-boo. When her fingers touch the keyboard, the piano becomes a percussion instrument. But what strikes most, is the way how she combines the vocals and the piano: she sings the first voice, and at the same time, she lets the piano sing the second voice. This lady is undoubtedly at her best when live.
