Commuters warned in advance: from 1 July 2016, it will no longer be possible to use your paper ticket on buses, trams or the underground!
This change was announced months ago: paper tickets are living their final hours at STIB-MIVB.
Smart card
From 1 July 2016, for travel on the public transport network of Brussels, it will be necessary to have a MOBIB magnetic card or a contactless chip ticket. All you need to do is swipe it against the MOBIB validating machine (red boxes).
The Orange Box
Therefore, in exactly one month, the orange ticket-validation machines will definitely be put back in their boxes! They are still 3,700 in circulation.
What can you do with your paper ticket?
Commuters who still have their paper ticket can exchange it for a contactless chip ticket by going to a STIB BOOTIK or KIOSK.
