The time has come for the official reopening of the Toison d'Or Gallery!
The shopkeepers are bringing their A-game to celebrate the reopening of this mythical place that was renovated from top to bottom to offer the people of Brussels all that a gallery could be: a spacious place, a cluster of shops, culture and restoration.
The old gallery, progressively built on various properties bought one by one by Fernand Gillion, looked like a maze where you could easily get lost. The conception of the gallery was outdated and it really needed a lifting so it could regain its past glamour.
The works started in 2008 and lasted 2 years. If the 14742 m² commercial area stays unchanged, the configuration of the place radically changed and the hallways, before narrow and winding, have been replaced with large and simple promenade-like alleys. One of the entrance had to be sacrificed but 2 remain, the Toison d'Or Avenue one and the other at Chaussée d'Ixelles, each has been beautified with large eye-catching metallic canopies. In addition, the designers have chosen to favour natural light, that will now flow through a giant skyline. The artificial lighting, air-conditioning systems now answer to the strict european ecological norms.
