CANCELLED - The Peace Gate will be a part of the landscape of Brussels, and thus of Europe, until Augustus the 5th. In a few words, the installation (10 meters high) consists in two large ventilators, one surmounted by the Israeli flag and the other by the Palestinian flag. The flags float in the air during one minute when two people shake hands in the installation's center-spot. A whole symbol!
This project, as the artist explains, is "an interactive sculpture which allows everyone, by intervening physically on the sculpture or via the Internet, to express his will to see a fair and lasting peace replace the current israélo-palestinian conflict." The event will take place on the Schuman traffic circle, Rue de la Loi, in Brussels.
The flags are also visible online via a webcam and the installation can be activated by a simple click on the website www.thepeace.eu. Online visitors are then invited to join the list of people prompting Europe for a diplomatic investment in the resolution of the conflict. We request from politicians the holding of an international conference for peace in the Middle East, based on the application of international law and on the UN resolutions.
