Pink grew up in Philadelphia. At the age of 14 she had her first job, singing backup in a friends' rap group. Every Friday night, a DJ friend gave her a few minutes at the mike at a local club, which led to her being chosen as a back-up singer for the short-lived group Basic Instinctt.
After that gig Pink found work as a lead singer for another R&B group, Choice, who were signed to LaFace records. Choice's career was similarly brief, but the association with LaFace proved fruitful - the label released Pink's first album, Can't Take Me Home, in 2000 which turned into a great success. Pink has developed into a pop icon in the music industry of today.
