This is the final concert in the 4 Seasons Event organised in the Brussels-Capital region, to raise funds for the Clinical Research Unit against Cancer in the Medical Oncology Department in Erasme Hospital.
Born in Buenos Aires, Martha Argerich studied piano from the age of five with Vincenzo Scaramuzza. Considered a child prodigy, she performed on stage from an early age. Martha Argerich has won several prizes: she was awarded the title of "Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres" in 1996 and was made "Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" in 2004 by the French government, she was named Academician of Santa Cecilia in Rome in 1997, Musician of the Year by Musical America in 2001, and was awarded The Order of the Rising Sun, and the Gold Rays with Rosette for her contribution to the development of musical culture and her support for young artists by the Japanese government. More recently she received the coveted Premium Imperial Prize awarded by the Emperor of Japan in 2005.
