The musical, the direct heir of the operetta who knew her main development in the XIXth century, notably in Autriche-Hongrie with Strauss and Lehár or in France with Offenbach, and finally in the United Kingdom with Gilbert and Sullivan, the kind became widely synonymic of Anglo-Saxon culture. This was made possible thanks to the vitality of the American creators, and the braodcasting by means of the cinema.
The Anglo-Saxon musicals and the French productions do not play on same scales of time: in the United Kingdom and in the United States, a musical is successful if it stays during several years, in Belgium a production which stays in the poster some weeks is a big success today.
