The Gewandhausorchester, whose origins go back to 1743, is one of the world's most celebrated orchestras.
Riccardo Chailly, Gewandhauskapellmeister since 2005, conducts Brahms's Third Symphony, whose renowned third movement was immortalised by Anatole Litvak's film Aimez-vous Brahms? (Goodbye Again). The soloist in Shostakovich's First Violin Concerto will be Leonidas Kavakos, known for his exceptional musicality.
