Belgium is one of the countries in the world where electronic payments are most widespread.

Ask for your Bancontact/MisterCash card to make purchases anywhere in Belgium and take money out of the 6.000 or so cash dispensers in the country.

"Don't forget to ask to have the Proton service added - this electronic purse can contain up to € 125. It can be reloaded, and is very useful for paying for minor purchases in shops, but also in car parks or for getting a can of fizzy water out of a vending machine. We should also mention that credit card payments are also widespread in Belgium: Visa and MasterCard are the two most commonly accepted. But beware: the cost for using these modern means of payment varies between banks. Card Stop: to block your card if it is lost or stolen - Tel.: 070/ 344 344 (24 hours a day). Since 1st July, banks are gradually opening their ""selfbanks"" to clients from other banks. With your ""Bancontact/MisterCash"" card you can now take cash out of all selfbanks, even if you are not a customer of the bank in question. In other words, you can get cash from a branch of Fortis even if you aren't a customer."
