Expo 58. The first universal post-war exhibition. Dreams of technological progress came true. A euphoric era which of course influenced fashion. The female silhouette evolved radically and seemingly to eliminate the memories of the food shortages endured during the war, fabrics, models and colours became more diversified and luxurious.
Rich in many post-war exhibits, the Musée du costume et de la dentelle presents an insight into the fashion of the 1950's as an introduction to the 50th anniversary of the Expo 58.
The models exhibited, creations of well-known dressmakers or outfits from Belgian designers, are a part of the museum's collection. Magnificent evening dresses, suits, coats and fashionable accessories illustrate that particular period in history when women's fashion was defined by elegance.
Alongside this exhibition the museum presents " Tissages d'Absolu " (Weavings of Absolute). This is a selection of emblematic artists who have been creating out of the ordinary textiles for a number of years.
