Dropkick Murphys is our favourite live punk band. On 'The Meanest Of Times', already their sixth studio album, this seven-piece set up from Boston has done a great job in making their Celtic punk sound like a melting pot of The Clash, The Pogues and Stiff Little Fingers. Musically, the recipe is traditional: party punk combined with Irish folk.
Their previous record 'The Warrior's Code' was a very personal one, containing references to their home city of Boston, which resulted in a prominent place on the soundtrack for Martin Scorsese's film, 'The Departed'. The band's close ties with the large Irish community in Boston was demonstrated yet again when the Boston Red Sox baseball team invited them to the celebrations after winning the World Series for the second time.
It is with pleasure that we welcome back to the AB: Al Barr (vocals), Ken Casey (bass guitar & vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, bodhrán, vocals), James Lynch (guitar, vocals), Marc Orrell (guitar, accordion, vocals), Tim Brennan (accordion, mandolin, acoustic guitar, vocals) and Scruffy Wallace (bagpipes).
