The Coro dell' Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, in Rome, is one of the best and oldest choirs in the world, but in its nearly 500-year history it's never had a chance to perform outdoors.
See you @ Grand Place
That's about to change as the KlaraFestival has invited its 90 or so singers to deliver an exquisite one-hour, out-door, early evening concert of a cappella songs by Schubert, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Italian composers. Passers-by will be free to stop and soak up the heavenly harmonies, or rush on to whatever they were on their way to do. The date, it seems, will coincide with a Beer Festival, scheduled to take place on the Grand'Place, which should make for a surreal -and very Belgian- atmosphere.See you @ BOZAR
Gargantuan concert by the Flemish Radio Orchestra and Santa Cecilia Choir, in which two out of the three works on the programme will be Belgian premières. Busoni?s only piano concerto is a titanic, turbulent piece of work lasting over an hour and calling for a full-blown male choir in the final movement. Peter Donohoe, a first-rate pianist from Manchester, will perform its ridiculously difficult solo part. Then comes, Pfhat, a weird but strangely enticing work from 20th-century Italian Giacinto Scelsi in which humming and whispering sounds from the choir create an unnerving halo that?s dispersed by the tinkling of tiny bells. Overexcited ears will find comfort in Brahms? Schicksalslied (?Song of Destiny?), one of the most perfect expressions of resignation and consolation in all music?s history.More about
