Since its invention, photography is the focus of numerous controversies and sensational trials. Symbol of freedom of expression and individual rights but also power and money, photography is regularly confronted with authorities, censorship or manipulation. It has sparked heated debates that have often ended in court.
Initially presented at the Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne, the exhibition offers a wide selection of photographs, famous or unknown, who were the subject of litigation or controversy, the beginnings of the medium to contemporary art. The whole thus better understand the view that societies and cultures are images of their time.
