In addition to the celebrated Threepenny Opera, their collaboration also produced his darkest work, the cantata Vom Tod im Wald (1927), and the Berliner Requiem (1928). Written for the tenth anniversary of the end of the First World War, this secular requiem could be said to presage the oppressive political atmosphere of the years after 1933.
