A spotlight on one of the most bizarre personalities of the Renaissance: Carlo Gesualdo (1561-1613), whose unlikely life story was matched by his extravagant style in music.
Gesualdo's oeuvre, both sacred and profane, is marked by chromaticism, dissonance, and madrigalism. His collection of motets Responsoria et alia ad Officium Hebdomadae Sanctae spectantia, intended for use during the office of Tenebrae in Holy Week, is very much representative of his style.
