SOUL... a blistering mix of anguished soul & greasy rock & roll! BETTYE LAVETTE is a very well seasoned veteran from Detroit USA. Her latest hit is the appropriately named, 'The Scene Of The Crime'. This CD was recorded in the very same legendary Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama where she laid down an overlooked masterpiece in 1972 (a CD which wouldn't be released until 2000).
Mrs LaVette is a hardy survivor. And you can hear it, particularly in the revealing song title, 'The Battle Of Bettye LaVette alias Before The Money Came'. Do you remember the recent AB club and box concerts? Just ask Stef Kamil Carlens! These steaming concerts came in the wake of that strong comeback CD, 'I've Got My Own Hell To Raise'. Back then Joe Henry was her rescuing producer, now she works with Drive-By Truckers and Spooner Oldham (see also Neil Young). And whether she covers Willie Nelson, Elton John or Ray Charles: Bettye Lavette gives you goose bumps!
