Andreas Staier and Alexander Melnikov confront the harpsichord with the piano and the 18th century with the 20th in a fascinating programme of preludes and fugues by founding father Bach and Shostakovich.
The Russian composer composed his cycle of 24 preludes and fugues in honour of Bach, but in a musical language that was entirely his own. Melnikov's recording of them caused a huge stir and won a number of awards. Staier, for his part, has already shown us his great talent on both the harpsichord and the fortepiano. This should be a unique evening.
