An automatic chips distributor in Brussels
After vending machines filled with crisps, sodas and chocolate bars, here we present one of the most Belgian inventions of the time: an automatic distributor of chips. A packet of 135 grams of fries to snack on no matter the hour. Located in front of a supermarket at 686 Chaussée de Gand in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, the first fry machine of its kind is ready for use.

You have to admit that one day you will be subject to a crazy fry craving in the middle of the night, your fry maker will be broken and you only have one potato left in your cabinet… Some clever people developed a solution to this problem that will satisfy your food cravings no matter what time of the day or night.

The solution? Why an automatic distributor of fries of course!

135 grams of thin cut chipss, sauce samuraï

You’ve already used this type of machine a hundred times. Put your money in and then click on the buttons to get what you want!

And now to have chips, you’ll do the same thing. Slide 2€50 in the vending machine, choose your sauce (samouraï, mayonnaise, ketchup) and wait a minute and a half to receive your precious dish. A bit of salt to top it off and a little fork to dive into the 135 grams of fries! Bon appétit!

The first machine in Molenbeek

A supermarket in Molenbeek was the first to try out the fry vending machine. It’s at 686 Chaussée de Gand where the machine proudly resides. Frozen fries are stocked inside and then cooked in beef fat, a technique that has proven its worth and is the sole preserve of the best fry makers in the capital!

Verdict?

These fries come nowhere near the best chip shops in the capital, looking more like the slim cut fries found in fast-food restaurants. They are edible but do not measure up to the quality you find in the best shops in Brussels.

On a healthy note, are we that far off from having a packet of steamed Brussels sprouts out of a machine? When will vegetables start turning up in these machines?
