Younger brother and neighbour of the Delirium Café - famous for its world record choice of beers – the Floris Bar is one of those unique places. Its niche: a bar offering an absolutely incredible choice of rare spirits. A particularity of the house, it exclusively offers the drink that fuddled the thoughts of Verlaine, Rimbaud and Hemingway, among others.
One is assured that the absinth served here is not spiked with methylated spirits or ether. That might dissipate the charm of the crazy poet a little but your neurones will be much the better for it. Specialities to be tested, the Czech version that consists of burning and then sipping the absinth, or the traditional French version that comes with its famous fountain. In all, there are no less than 135 varieties on offer, some of which reach 80°, as well as hundreds of tequilas, gins and other corrosive pick-me-ups. The cordial setting and the impeccable service at the bar (advice and questions welcome) will remove none of the charm of those liquefied evenings. In the kingdom of the absinth, the drinker is king…
